Our History
Authentic Voices International (AVI) originated as an advisory committee to the National Call To
Action: A Movement to End Child Abuse and Neglect (NCTA). NCTA began in 1999 to facilitate
a coordinated, collaborative, multi-disciplinary national effort to eliminate child abuse and
neglect by improving systems that protect our children, and healing victims. NCTA was an
unprecedented coalition of over 30 national organizations, Authentic Voices (survivors of child
abuse), and interested people--all sharing the same vision.

A New Home
When, in 2005, the NCTA coalition dissolved, the Authentic Voices component was still alive
and well, and looking for a new home. One of the members of AVI had already created Health
Presentations, a charitable organization dedicated to sharing information about human health
and well-being, particularly the findings of the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study. That's
how AVI became a program of Health Presentations, and acquired an international vision.
What kind of people are part of AVI?
AVI welcomes everyone who is attuned to our mission and willing to put forth the energy it takes
to be part of something this big, this important, this vital to the present, and to the future. Ours
is a policy of inclusion. We are all volunteers. Because we work in local groups, there are no
geographical boundaries. To whatever extent possible, we use email and the Internet to keep
in touch with each other. However, if you know of people without these resources, send us
email with their contact information; we will contact them by conventional mail.
